Brief Bio

After gaining BA (Hons) from the University of Sussex, and MSc (Distinction) and PhD degrees from the London University Institute of Education, I embarked on a long and varied academic career culminating in my post as Professor of Child Psychology at Brunel University. Currently I am Honorary Professor at Kingston University London.

The main focus of my career has always been research, although teaching and management have also been important. My research has been on topics ranging from poverty and disadvantage, through education and disability, to self-harm and the religious identities of young people. My most recent research has been based on the pandemic diaries written by diarists aged 70 and over.

A more complete list of my academic books, chapters and articles can be found on the Kingston University London website.
